Dr. Smith grew up in Canandaigua, NY where his parents and extended family still reside. After graduating from Canandaigua Academy he completed his Kinesiology undergraduate degree at Penn State University in State College. His focus at that time was on athletic training but was inspired after working with the team of physicians and decided to pursue medical school.
He then attended medical school at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY and was fortunate enough to stay at SUNY Upstate for his orthopedic residency training. After 10 years in Syracuse, he spent an additional year of training in Richmond, Virginia at ORV to specialize in arthroscopic surgery and sports medicine.
Dr. Smith brings his interest in robotic joint replacement to the area and has helped build the robotic total knee program at Arnot. In addition, he has worked with many talented athletic trainers and physical therapists to expand the area’s top sports medicine program.
