Dr. Smith grew up in Canandaigua, NY where his parents and extended family still reside. After graduating from Canandaigua Academy he completed his Kinesiology undergraduate degree at Penn State University in State College. His focus at that time was on athletic training but was inspired after working with the team of physicians and decided to pursue medical school. He then attended medical school at SUNY Upstate medical university in Syracuse, NY and was fortunate enough to stay at SUNY Upstate for his orthopedic residency training. After 10 years in Syracuse, he spent an additional year of training in Richmond, Virginia at ORV to specialize in arthroscopic surgery and sports medicine.
After interviewing with multiple orthopedic practices in the central New York region he decided the team at Arnot Health was the perfect match and joined the group after fellowship.
Dr. Smith met his wife Jessica (who also is an Upstate New York native) while she was completing her Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree, also at SUNY Upstate. They have two sons and a daughter together, as well as multiple ducks and bunny rabbits.
In his free time Dr. Smith is an avid gardener, bowhunter, and a Penn State football fanatic.
